A little bit of escapism...
The view from my studio window has been
pretty grey and miserable lately as the cold Melbourne winter fast approaches. In
an attempt to escape from the bleakness of winter I thought I would draw
something a little bit bright and cheerful.

Neil Thomas
Neil Thomas is a Melbourne based artist who
creates intriguing sculptural pieces made from wood, paint and found objects. Many
of the tiny figures in Neils work appear in isolation and are often surrounded
by vast amounts of negative space alluding to a state of deep thought or
emotion. Neil not only creates beautiful pieces of art to hang on your walls he
also creates unique pieces of handmade jewellery. Head down to The Rose Street
Artists’ Market in Fitzroy to meet Neil and take a look at his incredibly
thought provoking creations!
Tribute to Maurice Sendak
I was very sad to hear
that the incredible author and illustrator Maurice Sendak passed away recently.
Sendak was most famous for his iconic book Where the Wild Things Are published
in 1963 and made in to a movie by Spike Jonze in 2009. Where the Wild Things
Are has transcended the ages and i think it would be hard to find a person who didn't have this book read to them when they were a child. I still own a copy and am still as
captivated by Sendaks illustrations as ever before. I came across this beautiful
interview with Sendak and thought it would be a perfect tribute to this very
talented man.

A Sunny Day in Autumn
Autumn in Melbourne is in my opinion the most beautiful time of the year. Here are some pictures of Autumn leaves that i took while going for a walk around my area. These pretty pictures just might make there way in to a new drawing I've been working on...
Miso
Anyone that is interested in street art has most likely heard of the Melbourne based artist Miso. Today I was very lucky to have had the chance to listen to Miso speak about her practice, inspirations and thoughts on street art in general. She talked about the beauty of street art being in its ephemeral nature, subject to the conditions of its environment. She uses street art as a way to communicate to the general public, inviting an audience that is not restricted to those involved or interested in the art world but to everyone and anyone who passes by. She believes that street art should be non-commercial and refuses to take commissions for her paste-ups, describing her work as “gifts to the city”. You are likely to find Miso’s beautiful hand drawn and cut paste-ups guarding the doorways of laneways around Melbourne’s CBD.

at the Red Hill market on Saturday from 8am-1pm and the Rose Street Artists’ Market
on Sunday from 8am-5pm. I would love to see you there!
Emma Leonard
I was lucky enough to
visit the stall of one of my favourite illustrators Emma Leonard at the Finders
Keepers Market in Melbourne. Her stall

Adara Sanchez Anguiano
I love the way Spanish Illustrator Adara Sanchez Anguiano draws the human figure. Her delicate and loose line work reminds me of one of my favourite artists, Egon Shiele. Splashes of watercolour and sketchy lines drawn with grey led pencil come together to create these beautiful drawings. Adara's artwork definitely motivates me to pay closer attention in my life drawing classes! You can see more of her illustrations here.

I received a very exciting email last week inviting me to be part of Etsy’s stall at the Melbourne Finders Keepers Market! The Finders Keepers Market is a biannual art and design market held in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. The Melbourne market is on this weekend at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton. I'm very excited to be selling prints of my drawings at the Rose Street Artists' Market this Sunday! The Rose Street Artists' Market is just off Brunswick Street in Fitzroy. The market is filled with all sorts of talented creative people across the fields of photography, design, fashion, jewellery and much more. It is definitely worth strolling through on a lazy Sunday!
Ben Lopez "Daydreams & Empty Bottles"
Today i went and checked out Ben Lopez's exhibition entitled "Daydreams and Empty Bottles" at Punk Milk Gallery in Frankston. Lopez creates mesmerising highly intricate pen and ink drawings that take your imagination to another world. His work has so many intertwining elements and details that it is worth spending some time looking at each individual artwork. Lopez's exhibition will be running until April 6th, i highly recommend you go see this show! You can see more of Bens artwork here.
